Surface Preparation of Retaining Walls
Preparation of below-ground reinforced concrete walls before waterproofing. Concrete irregularities, formwork residues and weak layers on the wall surface are removed with a grinding disc (angle grinder) and by scarifying. Cold joints and the chamfer zone at the foundation–wall junction are opened up with a breaker to a finger's depth (about 2–3 cm). The surface is washed with a high-pressure water jet to remove dust, loose particles and grinding residue. Areas around form ties and cold joints are filled with epoxy repair mortar, and tie-rod holes are fully closed with R4 class structural repair mortar. All edge and corner junctions are rounded with a fillet at least 4 cm wide using R4 class repair mortar, leaving the surface ready for priming.
